The Heart Behind Jackson Tiny Tails

About Me

Hello and welcome, I’m Jo.

In December 2023, I said goodbye to Little Jack, my beloved, cheeky Chihuahua-Jack Russell with a big personality, at the incredible age of 17½. He was my soul dog, and losing him left a space nothing can quite fill. Just a month later, in January 2024, I also lost my dad, my rock, after his long journey with Alzheimer’s. Several years earlier in 2015, I had also lost Jack’s brother, Sonny, my gentle little angel.

We were four, then three, and then just me. The silence that followed was overwhelming.

A Home Built on Love

My dad and I walked the dogs together, we became a team. That quiet companionship shaped so much of my daily life and brought us all closer. I went part-time to care for my dad at home for as long as possible. Later, I left my job of nearly 30 years to start something new, something grounded in love.

That choice became the start of Jackson Tiny Tails, my journey into dog boarding and day care, inspired by the deep bonds I shared with Little Jack, Sonny, and my dad. The name Jackson comes from combining Jack and Sonny – a way to keep them close and it brings meaning and joy back into my home every single day.

FAQs

Yes, I’m fully licensed by the local council for up to 5 dogs, but I choose to care for no more than 3 or 4 at a time. This way, I can give each dog the calm, individual attention they deserve, without things ever feeling busy or overwhelming.

I usually care for small to medium-sized dogs, to ensure they receive plenty of attention and that they have space that feels right for their needs.

I’ve been caring for dogs for many years, and since starting Jackson Tiny Tails, I’ve created a calm, loving home where every dog is treated like family. I only welcome a small number of dogs at a time, so I can get to know each one and give them the attention, comfort, and gentle care they deserve.

Yes, please. Keeping your dog on their usual diet is important for their comfort and health. It helps avoid upset tummies during their stay. You can also bring their treats, favourite bowl, or anything else that makes them feel settled.

At the moment, I don’t offer transport, I’ve found it’s best for owners to drop off and collect their dogs themselves.

Absolutely. Whether you’re away for a weekend or a few weeks, your dog will be part of my home for the whole stay. For longer bookings, it’s especially important to do a couple of trial visits first, so they feel relaxed and happy from the start.

I often start with short trial visits, maybe 2 hours at first, then a half-day, then a full day — before any overnight stays. This helps them get used to me, my home, and the gentle routine here, so when the time comes, they settle in as though they’ve always been part of the place.
